The Secondary Research Opportunities Program (SROP) at Seattle Science Lab is a 12-week virtual internship designed for high school students interested in STEM. Participants are paired with university-level mentors to conduct scientific research and develop a capstone project. These projects can take various forms, including literature reviews, experimental analyses, or prototypes for novel technologies. Students engage in weekly meetings with their mentors and Seattle Science Lab staff, dedicating approximately 6 hours per week to their projects, with an expectation to exceed this for meeting deadlines. The program culminates in a science symposium where students present their research findings through a poster presentation. The goal is for each student to produce a publishable or shareable deliverable, gaining valuable skills in research methodology, critical thinking, and scientific communication.
