Students gain practical experience by building their own AI tool while critically examining the ethical dimensions and societal impact of artificial intelligence.
This course introduces high school students to the foundational concepts of Artificial Intelligence (AI), including machine learning, neural networks, computer vision, reinforcement learning, and generative AI (large language models, or LLMs). Students will learn how AI is used in everyday technologies, such as voice assistants and social media algorithms. A key component of the program involves guided activities where participants build their own unique AI tools. The curriculum also integrates discussions on the ethical implications and responsible development of AI, encouraging students to consider fairness, transparency, and the future potential of this technology. The aim is to equip students with the knowledge and skills to effectively utilize and create AI tools and to understand their impact on society.
A typical day involves learning core AI concepts, exploring real-world applications, and engaging in guided activities to build or modify AI tools, alongside discussions on ethical considerations.
This course is ideal for ninth to twelfth graders with foundational knowledge of Python and familiarity with code libraries who are interested in understanding and shaping the future of AI.
